Cytocentrifuge: new rotor for pathological anatomy

Both in pathological anatomy and in cytodiagnosis, the purpose is to find the cause, origin and nature of certain alterations through the examination of tissues and body fluids.

To do this, the sample must be deposited on a specific type of support and be subsequently analysed under the microscope.

The cyto containers and their purpose

The first step is a filtering of the fluid that is carried out through a set of pieces called cyto containers.

In this way, morphological changes that may cause pathologies are analysed by studying cells (cytopathology) and tissues (histopathology).

This analysis makes it possible to identify certain abnormalities and diagnose the disease that produces them so that the most appropriate and effective treatments can be applied.

Since these morphological alterations are detected by the analysis of cells, certain previous procedures are required for the treatment of the sample and its subsequent visualization under the microscope.

The importance of the cytocentrifuge in sample processing

A fundamental part of this process is the use of a centrifuge that has a specific rotor, a cytorotor, which will obtain a concentration of the sample in a thin layer. This type of procedure requires a smaller sample volume, which is very useful in those extractions in which a low volume of liquids is obtained.

Our cytocentrifuge has among its accessories a series of specific rotors that allow processing a wide variety of samples such as exudates, cerebrospinal fluid, tissues from gynecological analysis samples, etc. In addition, it is specially designed with an acoustic warning system to prevent the sample from drying out and deteriorating.

This equipment has an oscillating rotor for four horizontal load samples and, as a novelty, we have launched a fixed angle rotor for citofunnel type consumables, which completes its range of accessories, adapting to the needs of any type of laboratory that works with these. procedures.

This new rotor reaches a maximum speed of 2,500 rpm, with a capacity for 12 samples, with a sample volume of 0.1-0.5 ml (citofunnel), 6 ml (megafunnel) or 12 positions for cyto-clips.
