Industrial Antibody Production: From Cell Cultures to Therapeutic Solutions

Cell cultures today function as efficient production systems for specific compounds, with a wide range of applications across diverse fields. These include cell cultures for tissue regeneration, antibiotic manufacturing, vaccine production, and other medicines.

However, both during the maintenance of the cell culture and at the moment of harvesting the product of interest, a series of conditions such as temperature and oxygen concentration, among others, must be kept stable to ensure the quality of the harvested product.

Chain Centrifugation: The First Step in Antibody Harvesting

In the particular case of cell cultures aimed at antibody production, the first step in harvesting is usually carried out through chain centrifugation. This process allows for the separation of antibodies from other compounds that the cells have produced and released into the medium throughout the production process, which remain in the supernatant.

Briefly, these chain centrifugations typically occur at no more than 1000 x g for a period of 10 minutes. During this process, it is essential to control the aforementioned parameters to prevent the degradation of the antibodies.

Antibody Production Scales: From Research to Industry

Antibody production in cell cultures can be carried out at both laboratory scale, for academic purposes, and industrial scale, for commercial purposes.

In both cases, the use of centrifuges that can precisely control temperature and reliably maintain the required conditions for each type of cell culture is crucial. However, the difference lies in the fact that while antibody production for research purposes typically uses cells adhered to Petri dishes and operates with volumes on the order of milliliters, industrial-scale production requires centrifuges that can handle volumes in the range of liters, as the process involves cells contained in bioreactors with significantly larger volumes than in academic research.

The Dilitcen 22 R is the best option for industrial-scale antibody production in cell cultures due to its advanced features and ability to handle large sample volumes. This refrigerated centrifuge offers a maximum capacity of up to 4 liters, allowing for the processing of large and varied volumes, essential for industrial production.

Cell cultures are essential for the production of antibodies and biological compounds. Maintaining stable conditions during both cultivation and harvesting is crucial to ensuring the quality of the final product.

The distinction between laboratory-scale and industrial-scale production highlights the importance of advanced technologies like the Dilitcen 22 R centrifuge, which optimizes the process and ensures efficient handling of large volumes. With these innovations, antibody production becomes more efficient and sustainable.
